Lapsang Souchong is an old and traditional Chinese black tea. The taste is strongly smoky. It has reportedly been drunk in Finland since the 19th century. The Dutch began bringing Lapsang souchong to the West in 1604. At first, the tea was valued as an expensive medicine and was sold in pharmacies. According to historical documents, the kingCharles IIA Portuguese princess married toKatarinaproduced in 1662 Lapsang souchong to England. The princess's passion contributed to the advancement of tea quality in England. Lapsang souchong was valued as a luxury drink in England, France and Holland. In England, Lapsang souchong used to be served in the royal family and was known as royal black tea. The dominance of the Dutch was broken in 1669, when England started importing Lapsang souchong in larger batches.
